Dead Island: Riptide Zombie Bait Edition?

Zombie Bait Header

Last year the fans of Deep Silver’s hugely popular zombie-themed video game Dead Island voted on the contents of an exclusive edition for the upcoming sequel. Apparently the winning extras will include a zombie hula girl figurine, magnetic zombie bottle opener, a branded bungalow key and be known as the Rigor Mortis Edition.

But rumors quickly began swirling around the interwebs that a “strictly limited” European edition of Dead Island: Riptide would be available for pre-order that includes the bust of a bloody, armless, decapitated girl in a bikini. Yes, seriously.

For the limited run of the Zombie Bait Edition for Europe and Australia, a decision was made to include a gruesome statue of a zombie torso, which was cut up like many of our fans had done to the undead enemies in the original Dead Island.

We sincerely regret this choice. We are collecting feedback continuously from the Dead Island community, as well as the international gaming community at large, for ongoing internal meetings with Deep Silver’s entire international team today. For now, we want to reiterate to the community, fans and industry how deeply sorry we are, and that we are committed to making sure this will never happen again.

We’re not sure if that means the idea has been completely scrapped. But honestly, we don’t know what to make of the so-called Zombie Bait Edition. It’s certainly not any worse than something you’d see in the game itself, but the statue just seems a little serial-killery to us. Anyway, we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more!

I must say that I never got into Dead Island. I found it a bit dull and repetitive and gave up playing it after only several hours. And I found the voice acting quite irritating.
