Official Romero Star Campaign Canceled.

About a month ago we mentioned the Zombie Research Society’s holy crusade to get legendary director George Romero a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The initiative was well underway with the support of fans and celebrities alike including Simon Pegg, Steve Niles and Lloyd Kaufman. However, the crowd-funded campaign has recently been canceled over objections from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce itself.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has filed an official protest with indiegogo in an effort to get our campaign shut down. The Chamber does not like that we are making it widely known that stars cost $30,000 and must be paid for by the celebrity or his/her representative.

Because the Chamber is the body that decides who gets a star and who doesn’t, it does no good to alienate them. So we had no choice but to shut down the campaign. Big bummer.

While all contributors will be issued full refunds, it’s unfortunate that the project had to end this way. We here at Zombie-Thon still believe that George Romero deserves to be recognized for all of his contributions to the world of film and the zombie genre itself. But for now the official Romero Star Campaign has been put on hold. We’ll be sure to let you know if there are any updates in the future!

*Minor Update – More details continue to emerge as a “discussion” rages in the comments section of popular online website
