Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is basically a playable demo for the upcoming sequel to Capcom’s 2006 zombie action video game Dead Rising.
I suppose it deserves a little more credit than that though, because Case Zero is actually a completely self-contained game in and of itself.
It bridges the gap between the two games, serves as a prologue for the upcoming sequel, and allows players to familiarize themselves with the new characters, settings and game mechanics.
The story itself focuses mainly on Chuck Greene and his daughter Katey as they attempt to escape Las Vegas. Unfortunately Chuck’s truck is stolen and Katey requires regular doses of a new, experimental drug called Zombrex to prevent her from turning into a zombie. So, good luck with that…
You’ll be battling hordes of the undead and crazed survivors, doing favors for the local townsfolk, and building all manner of crazy weapons to help you survive. Got some nails and a baseball bat? Create a spiked bat and start swinging!
One of the more frustrating elements of the Dead Rising series is the ever-ticking clock. It always seems like there simply isn’t enough time to do everything you’d like, which forces you to make some choices you might not otherwise want to make.
This ultimately puts the direction of the story in your hands. In fact, there are multiple endings based on the decisions you make. Can you protect Katey and still make it out alive?
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is a Xbox 360-exclusive download and is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
